Be part of a comprehensive wildlife survey with serious conservation and educational aims assisting in the development of an environmentally sensitive and sustainable management strategy. This marine wildlife experience will take you to one of the main Honduran marine sites located in the Caribbean Sea, to survey part of the world’s number one coral reef system in biodiversity and second largest in extension.
You will be trained in snorkeling and coral reef survey techniques. Once trained you will participate in one of the reef survey programs in Cayos Cochinos to assess coral reef health. The purpose of the survey program is to provide data on the current biological status of the reefs and islands and of population levels of protected species within the marine protected area. All this as part of an international coral reef research activity, called the Reef Check Monitoring Program. Overnight at the key will be in the basic but comfortable eco–shelter of the Marine Research Center.
