Our tour is by boat from La Ceiba, and includes lunch at a local restaurant and snorkeling equipment. In addition we will hike one of the trails on the keys, giving you an example of the natural richness of the marine reserve. The tour begins with a short 25 minutes bus ride from La Ceiba to Centro Turistico Sambo Creek in the Garifuna Community of Sambo Creek.
Upon arrival we board properly conditioned 2 motor boats, driven by experienced captains and tour guides who will lead us to Cayos Cochinos. There are several stops in interesting cays such as Bolaños fishing station, where you can enjoy and take pictures of magnificent views of the palm trees, white sand beaches and pristine turquoise waters. Continuing to Cayo Menor, at the Research Station an explanatory brief and an informative video on the marine natural monument of Cayos Cochinos is presented.
Around Cayo Menor, we enjoy beautiful cay’s beaches, there is time for snorkeling and swimming, and afterwards a mild hike on a trail in search of pink boa constrictor, the emblematic endemic species of the Cayos Cochinos.
Later on we sail to both Chachahuate cays: No. 1 and No. 2 making a final stop at the Chachahuate No. 1 where the local Garifuna offers delicious lunch (included), and the traditional ‘gifiti’ alcoholic beverage and handycrafts which you can buy at reasonable prices.
